What is the Midday Power Saver plan?
Midday Power Saver gives eligible Victorian households 3 hours of free electricity usage every day, with up to 24 kWh of usage free during the 11am - 2pm window.
Other charges, including your daily supply charge and controlled load usage, still apply during the free period. To be eligible, you’ll need a smart meter.
How much you could save depends on when and how you use electricity, as different rates apply outside the free period.
Midday Power Saver could work for you if...
You can shift more of your usage to 11am - 2pm
If you’re home during the day, or can use timers, you may be able to run energy-intensive appliances like your washing machine, heating and cooling systems or EV charger during the free window.
You can use less electricity outside the free window
Different rates apply outside 11am - 2pm, including higher peak rates from 4pm - 9pm. If you use a lot of electricity outside the free period, you could end up paying more.
You stay within the daily free usage cap
There’s a 24 kWh daily limit on the electricity you can use for free between 11am - 2pm. Any usage above this will be charged at the variable rates shown under ‘electricity rates’ once you enter your address.
You have a smart meter
A smart meter is required to be eligible for this plan. If you don’t have one, we can arrange to have one installed for you.
Further details
*$0/kWh electricity usage from 11:00am to 2:00pm each day, up to 24kWh. Usage above the 24kWh daily limit will be charged at the applicable usage rate shown in “electricity rates” above. Daily supply charges and controlled loads usage charges still apply during the free period.
**Midday Power Saver is best suited to households that can shift more of their electricity usage between 11:00am to 2:00pm. If you can’t shift enough of your usage to the free period, you could end up paying more on this plan.

Got questions?
Is the Midday Power Saver right for me?
This plan may suit you if you can regularly use more electricity between 11am and 2pm.
For example, you might save more if you:
- Run your dishwasher during the day
- Do your washing or drying around lunchtime
- Charge electric devices during the free period
- Use pool pumps or other household appliances during the day
If most of your electricity use happens in the morning or evening, this plan may not be the best fit for you. Charges outside the free period still apply so you could pay more overall if you cannot shift your usage.
Good to know: If your hot water or another appliance is on a separate controlled load, its electricity usage won’t count towards your 24 kWh of free electricity.
I don’t work from home. Can Midday Power Saver still work for me?
It can, but you’ll need to shift some of your electricity usage to 11am - 2pm to make the most of the free power. If you’re not home during the day, use appliance timers where possible to run things like your washing machine, dishwasher, clothes dryer or hot water during the free window.
Can I leave Midday Power Saver if it’s not right for me?
Yes. The Midday Power Saver is offered under a Standard Retail Contract and there is:
- No lock-in contract
- No fixed term
- No exit fees
I already have solar. Can I still use Midday Power Saver?
You can. While solar already helps you make the most of the daytime sun, Midday Power Saver could still work well if you have an EV, battery, pool pump or heating that you can use during the free window. Timers and automation can also make it easier to shift your energy usage without having to think about it every day.
